Too Much Information

As I am reading articles in my industry (technology consulting) I realize one of the reasons I have trouble staying on track with managing my time is the fact that most articles (online), which is about all I read these days, always have links to other articles, websites, etc. So, inevitably I click on one or more of those links to check out the content. I realized this click through to relevant information is costing me sometimes double the amount of time it takes to read the article.
What’s the solution?  I’m not sure but I am going to think on it for a while and try some different techniques.

My first Blog Post

I have been planning to start a blog for a long time. But other things kept getting in the way and I just didn't seem to have time to think about what I wanted to blog about.

Recently, I realized that while there are many things I would enjoy blogging about, the one subject that I really should blog about is my lack of available time to blog. So, we will see where this goes.

In reality there are only 16 hours in a day (that's assuming you get the recommended eight hours of sleep which I attempt to do these days). I am amazed at how quickly my 16 hours are used up. I like to think I have a handle on time management issues. I spend a few minutes every day planning out that day or the following day and even assign blocks of time for each task I have assigned myself. But somehow either the end of the day arrives and  I have not completed my tasks or I completely run out of energy before my tasks are completed.

The other issue I deal with sometimes is the fact that I don't really want to do some of tasks on my To Do List. It's amazing how long some tasks stay on the To Do List - months sometimes years. Apparently, that task is not really very important to me, even though I keep telling myself it is important.

So, my challenge, beginning tomorrow, is to be more realistic in the goals I set for myself (tasks) and to only assign myself as many tasks as I think I can reasonably do while still allowing myself some free time.

I hope you will follow along with me on this journey to recapture a couple hours of my day for my own enjoyment.
